The third pass is targeted. Go back only to the timestamps you marked and to the gaps your recall exposed. This usually takes eight to ten minutes for a forty-minute lecture. Then solve five to ten questions on the topic immediately, before moving on. A lecture that is not followed by questions within the same session has roughly half the value of one that is.

Make notes after the recall pass instead, and restrict them to three categories: formulas and rules you must memorise, worked examples of question types you found tricky, and one-line summaries of concepts in your own words. If a note could be replaced by a page of any standard book, it should not exist.
